Jonathan Pinson: Generation Next Entrepreneur

Jonathan Pinson runs one of the largest African-American businesses in South Carolina, the 450-employee Pindrum Staffing. WJMZ salutes this entrepreneur for proving that young, black businessmen can compete and win.

Pinson was born in Greenville one of four sons. He would graduate Carolina High School and then South Carolina State University. There he dreamed of becoming a business owner. So, he studied other entrepreneurs. And when he returned to Greenville Pinson started Pindrum with his brothers.

Business began slowly but the company's fortunes would soon change dramatically when Pindrum landed the staffing account for BMW after a fierce competition. That early victory has lead to phenomenal growth. Among Pindrum's clients today are Michelin North America and General Electric. His family also owns another business, Cascades Food Group, an institutional and commercial supplier of potato products. Pinson is president of Cascades, which processes more than 250 million pounds of potatoes at its Washington state manufacturing plant.

The Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce named Pindrum the 2004 Minority Business of the Year. Pinson told The Greenville News earlier this month that the company has placed more than 10,000 workers in jobs since 1993. Many of those workers wound up as permanent hires, which for Pindrum is the most enjoyable aspect of his business. WJMZ salutes Jonathan Pinson during this Black History Month for being a role model for African American businessmen and making a difference in this community.
