107.3 JAMZ Celebrates Black History Month
Upstate Black History Maker Raven Magwood Recognized February 05, 2008
Teenage CEO and Author

Determination. Dedication. Discipline. These 3 D's are the motto she uses to inspire success to those around her. And it is her own determination, dedication and discipline that make Raven Magwood one of our 2008 Upstate Black History Makers.

14-year old Raven has got quite a resume already. Her first book, On to Victory: The Winning Edge was written as part of a summer project in 2004. And now she has also published her first novel, Double Sided: 2007 about two young women, one black and one white, who are dealing with race relations in their small town.

In addition, she is the Executive Director of the Raven Magwood Foundation and CEO of "3 D's to Success." Its message is to teach young people not to give up no matter what their circumstances. Raven herself is no stranger to challenges. By the age of ten she had already faced two hernia surgeries as a result of her highly-competitive gymnastic career.

Along with an amazing 200 gymnastic medals, Raven is also a star track and field competitor and recently received the title of USATF 400 Meter Dash State Champion.

Raven often gives motivational speeches to youth, urging them to never give up. Her efforts have resulted in several "Raven Magwood Day" events, both here in the Upstate and in Baltimore, Maryland.

For her many amazing accomplishments at such a young age,107.3 JAMZ is proud to salute Raven Magwood as a 2008 Upstate Black History Maker.
