Hasker Hudgens: An Open Book

It is true when people say that being obedient really will pays off.

For Hasker Hudgens, pastor and evangelist, being obedient was the beginning of a successful ministry to save thousands of youth and give back to the community.

Hudgens has been in ministry at Redemption World Outreach Center (RWOC) in Greenville, SC for ten years. Originally from Greenville, he is a devoted family man and mentor to hundreds of youth each week.

His outreach efforts formed the mission known as Operation Greenville Outreach (or Operation GO). Through this initiative, Hudgens and a staff of 200 provides transportation to inner-city youth so that they may attend worship services and events. He also provides jail and gang prevention assistance to young people at risk.

He remains active on several boards in the community and often partners with local agencies to concentrate his efforts.

Hudgens admits that his work is non-stop. In his own words, "It is not a Sunday morning thing, but a 24/7 pure ministry." Still, there is more work to be done; more areas to be explored. For 2007, he sees that prosperity is emerging from within Black America. He also feels that Blacks are more financially strong. However, he still sees the poverty that surrounds this race of people. This is why his ministry also assists the underprivileged and low-income sectors.

With all of these unselfish acts under his belt, it comes as no surprise that Hasker Hudgens does not see himself as an "Unsung Hero." Instead, he turns things back around and gives all credit to God. "After all this time, I am amazed to see how much God has done," says Hudgens, who admits to being an open book.

With a ministry that has lead more than 50,000 people to the Lord, Hasker Hudgens should be a household name in the Upstate.

Still, he says, the key is being obedient and taking the cause seriously.
