Chilli of TLC LOOKING FOR HER NEW MAN ON VH1!

*VH1 has set April 11 for the season premiere of "What Chilli Wants," a new reality series that follows TLC's Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC as she searches for Mr. Right.

Based on the show teaser [seen below], Chilli has a long list of standards that has made her search rather difficult. Her dream guy must be "gorgeous, sensitive and charming," according to the 38-year-old singer, "and also a non-drinker, non-smoker and anti-pork."

Her buddies, including TLC's T-Boz and Missy Elliott, tell her that she'll never find a man unless she's willing to compromise on a few of her standards.

In January, VH1 held a casting call for men ages 25-40 "who have the sex appeal, personality, good looks, success and heart to date a major music artist who is looking to find her true love."

What should Obama do for blacks? First, heal a growing rift.

<strongyline>

By DeWayne Wickham
<intro><more>

I knew the long-simmering debate among blacks over what President Obama should be doing for blacks -- his strongest backers and the <kwd title="More news, photos about Democratic" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Organizations/Political+Bodies/Democratic+Party">Democratic Party's most loyal constituency -- would heat up. It turned red hot last week when a war of words broke out on <kwd title="More news, photos about Tom Joyner" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Journalists,+Media,+Academia/Tom+Joyner">Tom Joyner's nationally syndicated radio show between two of this country's leading black activists. In dueling appearances on Joyner's program, <kwd title="More news, photos about Tavis Smiley" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/Tavis+Smiley">Tavis Smiley and <kwd title="More news, photos about Al Sharpton" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Activists/Al+Sharpton">Al Sharpton went after each other in a way that would make would make <kwd title="More news, photos about Quentin Tarantino" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Celebrities/Directors,+Producers,+Writers/Quentin+Tarantino">Quentin Tarantino blush.</kwd></kwd></kwd></kwd></kwd>

</more></intro></strongyline>

"Some of us who call ourselves black leaders are making the wrong choice," Smiley said of Sharpton and several other civil rights leaders who met with Obama to discuss the jobs bill that was being considered by Congress. "The president doesn't need a black agenda, they sing. He's not the president of black America. He's the president of all America, and he need not focus specifically on the unique challenges black America is facing."

Smiley said he'll hold a televised meeting this month in Chicago to get those black leaders to explain why the president doesn't need a black agenda. Though it's unclear if any of those he criticized will show up, his call for such a "come to Jesus" meeting enraged Sharpton, who called into the show shortly after Smiley spoke.

Sharpton disputed Smiley's characterization of that meeting. He said he met with Obama to deal with unemployment and its lopsided impact on blacks. "We did not ask for a race bill because we did not think it would pass. We asked for a 'place bill,' where the jobs would go to where the people were most impacted," he said. Then Sharpton lobbed this brickbat: "When they were running around buck dancing for <kwd title="More news, photos about Bill Clinton" gen="auto" href="http://content.usatoday.com/topics/topic/People/Politicians,+Government+Officials,+Strategists/Executive/Bill+Clinton">Bill Clinton they didn't ask for a black agenda," he said in a slap at Smiley, whom he accused of being a sycophant of the former president. </kwd>

This is a senseless fight. Most black leaders, including Smiley, don't expect Obama to behave like Putney Swope (the black character in a film by the same name who takes control of a white-run advertising agency and imposes his black agenda on the firm).

They don't want him to act like some fear a consciously black president might. They don't expect loud pronouncements from Obama about what his administration is doing for blacks. But they also don't want him to be insensitive to problems that have a disparate impact on black people. What they do want is a go-to person on his staff to address their concerns.

Of course, Obama isn't the president of any one group of Americans. But to offer that as a reason for not focusing on the high black unemployment rate when his administration has made a targeted effort to address the concerns gays and lesbians have about the military's "don't ask, don't tell," seems like a policy that penalizes blacks for being black.

Obama has to act before the divisions harden between his black supporters and detractors. The infighting among these activists will only intensify if he doesn't find a way to salve the wounds of those who think he courted black voters during his presidential campaign and then abandoned them once he got into the Oval Office.

This is something he needs to do soon <idash>before his political base implodes.</idash>

Baby Would You look at her Now: Bern Nadette Stanis Has Some 'Situations'

It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since Bern Nadette Stanis last suited up as Thelma on "Good Times."

The actress, now 56, says she continues to act whenever parts come along, but is also happy to indulge in her other pastime, writing books. Stanis is spending these days promoting her second tome, "Situations 101: Relationships, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

"I did 101 different [relationship] situations and my responses to each and every one of them," she explains, adding that the book is for both male and female readers.

"I love being an author, I dance, and you're gonna see, I am a painter," she says - to the shock of both EUR's Lee Bailey and her "Good Times" co-star Jimmie Walker, who was sitting next to her.

Stanis says she regularly paints in oils, and boasts that she's much better than her fictional older brother, who admits he can't paint a lick even though his character JJ was a talented "ar-teeste."

"I would say once a month, some guy comes up and says, 'I'm a painter, and I was inspired by your work,'" laughs Walker. "As we all know, Ernie Barnes did all of our paintings and he was fabulous. Unfortunately, Ernie's passed away, but I can't even do stick figures."

Whether it's painting, writing, dancing or acting, Stanis says her main focus is to just go with the flow. "I just keep doing things that I feel to do," she says. "Things keep evolving and I go with it."

Michael Jackson's family believes involuntary manslaughter charges against the pop singer's physician would be "just a slap on the wrist," attorney Brian Oxman said Wednesday.

Oxman told CBS' The Early Show that Dr. Conrad Murray displayed recklessness in dispensing powerful drugs to help Jackson sleep, warranting a second-degree murder charge. Involuntary manslaughter -- the charge prosecutors reportedly plan to seek -- carries a maximum jail sentence of just four years.

"That is just a slap on the wrist, and a slap in the face, because Michael Jackson was someone who we knew was in danger of being brought to his knees, brought his death, by the use of these medications," Oxman said.

Murray's attorney said the doctor is ready to surrender to authorities if prosecutors file charges. While there is no public timetable for charges to be filed against Murray, there are strong indications the move is imminent.

Murray, who has a practice in Houston, came to Los Angeles last weekend and spent Tuesday afternoon meeting with his newly assembled team of three lawyers. The district attorney's office has not said if it will file charges but lead defense attorney Ed Chernoff said Murray is ready for such a move.

"I haven't received any phone call from anybody asking for the doctor to surrender," Chernoff said. "If we get the call, we'll be happy to."

A law enforcement official last month told the AP that prosecutors had decided to seek a grand jury indictment on an involuntary manslaughter charge. On Tuesday, a second law enforcement official said prosecutors were sticking with the charge but planned to file a criminal complaint to avoid the appearance of secrecy in the closely watched case.

Both officials requested anonymity because they are not authorized to publicly discuss the case.

David Walgren, the deputy Los Angeles County district attorney handling the case, declined to comment.

Jackson, 50, hired Murray to be his personal physician as he prepared for a strenuous series of comeback performances in London. His death on June 25 in Los Angeles came after Murray, tending to Jackson in the star's rented mansion, administered the powerful anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives to get the chronic insomniac to sleep, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, which ruled the death a homicide.

Propofol is only supposed to be administered by an anesthesia professional in a medical setting. The patient requires constant monitoring because the drug depresses breathing and heart rate while also lowering blood pressure, a potentially deadly combination.

Murray, a cardiologist, has maintained from the outset that nothing he gave the singer should have killed him. Administering propofol to Jackson wasn't illegal, so prosecutors must show Murray deviated from accepted medical norms when he administered it in a non-medical setting while Jackson already had other sedatives in his system.

A criminal complaint would pave the way for a preliminary hearing in the case, where a judge would publicly hear evidence and decide if it should go to trial.

Such a hearing would provide a valuable glimpse into the strength of the government's case and could help Murray determine if he should negotiate with prosecutors for a plea deal, said criminal defense attorney Roger Rosen, who is not a part of the case.

"You get a flavor for what you are dealing with," he said.

Chernoff recently hired attorneys Joseph Low, who has worked in the media spotlight representing Marines accused of wrongful killings in Iraq, and J. Michael Flanagan, who represented Britney Spears in a hit-and-run case.

Los Angeles Police Department investigators spent months gathering evidence, with detectives talking to numerous medical experts to determine whether Murray's behavior, which included talking on his cellphone and leaving Jackson's bedside, fell outside the bounds of reasonable medical practice.

To bring a manslaughter charge, prosecutors must show there was a reckless action that created a risk of death or great bodily injury. If a doctor is aware of the risk, there might also be an issue of whether the patient knew that risk and decided to take it.

Murray was in dire financial shape when he signed on as Jackson's doctor, owing a total of at least $780,000 in judgments against him and other payments. Low declined to comment on what financial arrangements the lawyers had made to represent Murray.

New Claims against Michael Jackson's Estate

The amount of claims levied against the estate of Michael Jackson totals more than $20 million, according to TMZ.

The tally includes a $5 million claim from a memorabilia collector, a $1 million claim from someone who wants a cut of the "Thriller" music video, a $2.3 million claim from Dr. Tohme Tohme and a $1.5 million claim from a law firm.

"That does not mean -- by any stretch -- the estate will pay all the claims," the site reported. "We're told some of them are patently bogus and lawyers for the estate will not pay, unless a judge orders them to ante up."

Meanwhile, Michael's father Joe has subpoenaed medical and other records from the UCLA Medical Center in hopes the documents will reveal evidence of foul play in his son's death.

"Joe's lawyer, Brian Oxman, sent two subpoenas to the UCLA Medical Center -- the hospital where Michael Jackson was pronounced dead on June 25," TMZ reported. Oxman is asking for a number of documents, including medical records, autopsy reports, autopsy photos, medications and prognosis assessments.

Joe Jackson tells TMZ his entire family is behind the subpoenas, and that they all believe the medical records will show what was in Jackson's body when he died. They believe the information will expose foul play.

Jackson's estate lawyers are reportedly outraged. TMZ reports, "We've obtained a letter sent to Oxman by estate lawyer Howard Weitzman, in which Weitzman calls the subpoenas 'clearly improper.' Weitzman claims the subpoenas violate Jackson's right of privacy and the physician/patient privilege. Weitzman also says the subpoenas are irrelevant to Joe Jackson's only legal claim -- a financial allowance."

MARY J. BLIGE PUNCHES HUSBAND IN THE FACE: Singer thought Kendu was eying another woman. Rep calls it 'a misunderstanding.'

*Both the New York Daily News and the New York Post have reported that Mary J. Blige hauled off and socked her husband Kendu Isaacs in front of guests at her album release party Tuesday night after accusing him of flirting with a woman.

The reported punch in the face - which drew blood, according to the Post - went down at New York's M2 after Blige allegedly saw Kendu checking out one of the waitresses.

"[Blige] turned to him and was screaming, 'You're not going to ruin my night,'" a witness told the Post.
The source said Blige, Isaacs and their entourage were whisked through a door to the attached club Pink, which was closed. The witness continued, "She was yelling at him, 'What are you gonna do, Chris Brown me?' Four of her bodyguards and two of the club's kept them apart."

Isaacs, according to the Post, was tossed out of the venue, while Blige went to the ladies room to fix her hair and makeup. But she bounced soon after, leaving partygoers Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes and others behind, according to the papers.

When asked to confirm the reports, Blige's rep, Karynne Tencer, told the Post, "People lie and don't know what they're talking about." When the Daily News asked for a comment, she referred to the incident as a "misunderstanding" and said Blige's marriage is as strong as ever.

"They're as happy as can be," said Tencer. "They're spending the holidays together with their three children. Everything's great."

The announcement came two weeks after Woods crashed his SUV into a tree outside his Florida home, setting in motion a stunning downfall for the world's No. 1 player, who for 13 years rarely made news off the golf course. One woman who said she had a 31-month affair with Woods shared a voice mail that she said Woods left her two nights before his Nov. 27 accident.

"I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children," Woods said in a statement released last week. "I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try."

Woods has not been seen in public since the accident.
